TIME SUPPLY MAKES GOOD Justifies Confidence of Many Back ¬ ers in Dearborn Handicap Defeats Rock X by Head After Close Con ¬ test at Detroit U Demon Surprises In Opener DETROIT Mich June 20 Mrs F A Carreauds Time Supply sensation of Florida racing and making his second start since he was badly beaten in the Preakness Stakes rewarded his many backers when he beat the Tranquility Farms Rock X by a head at the end of threequarters in the Dearborn Handicap the fifth and principal offering at the Fair Grounds this afternoon Mrs C j Cranes Ladf ield was third four lengths j back of Rock X and a length and a half before Mr Sponge which beat C V Whit ¬ neys Rhadamanthus by a nose Curacao was sixth and last lastThere There was little delay at the start of the dash and while Time Supply was the first under way C Critchf ield sent Rock X into the lead in the first forty yards Before leaving the back stretch however Tommy Luther drove the winner into command and after taking a clear advantage Time Supply began to tire Critchfield who had Rock X on the outside took him wide entering the stretch and although the colt which was favored with the light impost of 102 pounds made up ground when straightened out he received little help from his pilot For no reason Critchfield lodged a claim of foul but it was not entertained entertainedAlthough Although Curacao held third place for a half mile he tired in the drive as Ladfield and Mr Sponge offered their belated chal ¬ lenges lengesAlthough Although seven were named over night Marooned was excused this morning Time Supply which with Rock X carried the burden of the threeyearolds had a package of 108 and ran the distance in 111 111With With the largest crowd of the week pres ¬ ent for the midweek program close fin ¬ ishes edgeAlthough kept the big gathering on edge Although the weather was ideal for the opening of the program it became threat ¬ ening during the afternoon and the clouds hung low for the last three races Favor ¬ ites again were in the minority and when H C Eldredges Watch Tower got up to beat Lazi Canter at the end of the mile and a furlong fourth race it marked the first success of the afternoon for benefited when Thistle Fyrn carried Lazi Canter wide entering the stretch and al ¬ lowed Watch Tower to slip through on the inside After being straightened however Lazi Canter came again to offer the winner a stern battle for the winners portion portionU U Demon carried the Starmount Stable colors to his second straight victory and provided a mild surprise when he got up to beat Good Aim by a half length for the winners portion of the first race My Blonde an oddson choice was third after being badly ridden riddenWhile While Dancing Spirit and Good Aim rushed into the lead soon after the start of the five furlongs iest My Blonde began slowly and was rushed into command on the inside This effort proved too great for her when U Demon oame on the outside to offer his winning challenge The favorite had little left and gave way to both U Demon and Good Aim near the finish Danc ¬ ing Spirit which was making her first start held on gamely and was best of the others othersA A close finish climaxed the threequarters second race when the Lone Star Stables Shoot making her third start of the year beat the well backed Swifty by a head The latter held the same advantage over Sugar Jar Nine started and after the winner had raced head and head with Stephanus to the stretch Swifty which stole through on the inside gained a slight lead after reaching the final furlong However Shoot came again under L Dronets hustling tactics and beat the favorite in the last stages Sugar Jar a factor from the start lost ground throughout throughoutA A nose decided the third race when the improved Inflate from the stable of Tom Keating triumphed over Genteel Lady at the end of the six furlongs Third went to Doeskin The veteran C Critchfield reg ¬ istered his first score of the meeting astride the winner He rushed Inflate into the lead in the first quarter and after drawing away from Genteel Lady increased his advantage to nearly two lengths before reaching the stretch Genteel Lady which was forcing the pace moved up alongside of the leader in the final threesixteenths but Critchfield appeared to impede her but once clear of the interference Genteel Laiy came again and just missed getting up Doeskin was the best of the others throughout Blackstrap which enjoyed favoritism was never promi ¬ nent nentFritter Fritter Circle registered the fourth score of his career when he was an easy winner over Electric Gaff Quiver and three others that contested the sixth race Ridden by Tohnny Mattioli the winner followed the ace of Electric Gaff which was not al owed to be withdrawn this morning to uhe final furlong and taking command thereafter drew away to a twolength ad ¬ vantage at the finish While Quiver was forced to come from behind to beat Spring Flight by a nose for the minor award the favored Tom Jack Jr was eased back at the first turn and failed to be a factor there ¬ after
