QUALIFY FOR DWYER STAKES Growler and Carry Over Show Readiness by Good Race Stablemates Finish First and Second in Old OldKosebud Kosebud Purse at Aqueduct Big BigCrowd Crowd Out NEW YORK N Y June 20 H W Max ¬ wells Growler and the Wheatley Stables Carry Over two of James Fitzsimmons eligi bles for the Dwyer Stakes to be decided Saturday had a useful public trial over the course today in the Old Rosebud Purse in which they were first and second in the order named A third eligible W Grahams Kievex was beaten for third by Bubblesome one that does not enjoy the engagement The only other starter in this was War Let ter another that is not in the Dwyer t After the finish of the race Growler was worked out a full mile and three furlongs in 220 and it was a decidedly impressive move The son of Aga Khan was easily better than Carry Over in the running for he gave him four pounds and a beating With delightful racing weather and an in teresting card a big crowd was attracted to the old course Little time was lost at the post in the feature race but in that short time Davis one of the assistant starters was tempo rarily knocked out while handling Kievex The start was a good one and Litzen berger at once sent Kievex out to set the pace with Bubblesome second Carry Over followed the Jones colt and War Letter was in third place but Growler was showing more early speed than has marked most of his efforts and he raced closely after these Meade sent Bubblesome next to the rail and rating the son of Bubbling Over along at a smart pace held his lead steadily Carry Over went along at his heels and War Letter was soon four lengths back of the Wheatley colt Growler raced fourth arid he was showing the way to Kievex KievexIt It was going to the stretch turn and when War Letter showed signs of tiring Stout moved up with Growler and he gained with such ease that even then he seemed all over a winner Carry Over was still in second place and Bubblesome was still show ¬ ing the way but Growler was moving along with less exertion than either of these that were showing him the way wayAs As the Fitzsimmons pair drew up on Bub ¬ blesome Meade went to a drive and the colt responded gamely but it was of no avail They were soon past and under a hustling ride Growler beat his stablemate by a length Carry Over was just a neck before Bubblesome and Kievex coming with a belated rush was another length back backThe The race was one to warrant starting Growler in the Dwyer particularly from the handy fashion in which he worked out the mile and three furlongs furlongsThe The short course steeplechase brought a L surprise when H E Talbot Jrs Pavilion 1 Royal was winner with F Ambrose Clarks 5 Hurry Har y second and Mrs John Hay 7 Whitneys Poppyman a distant third There were two casualties in the running when Election Day unseated Jones at the first 1 fence arid J Howard Lewis Sand Flash fell with Bauman while in the lead and four jumps from the finish finishMrs Mrs Henry Ughettas Royal Guard was 3 rather an easy winner over the platers that t raced in the third Mrs Kathleen Jesber gers Laurel Miss raced to second place and Miss E Munrpes Espinaca closed a big gap 5 to beat Judge Schilling for third thirdLaurel Laurel Miss and White Cloud were the 2 ones to set most of the pace and Red Badge e followed these Judge Schilling left his stall slowly and was far back and Espinaca was s also far back with Royal Guard not much better off offLaurel Laurel Miss held command until well into the stretch There for an instant Judge Schilling threatened to catch her but he tired and then Royal Guard moved up with his winning rush He readily ran past Laurel Miss and his winning margin was five lengths Laurel Miss saved second place by a length and a half and Espinaca had closed With a rush in the last furlong to beat Judge Schilling for third thirdFrank Frank Coltiletti sent the winner of the fifth to the post when he saddled Top High for Mrs Coltiletti It was a mile race for platers and incidentally the first winner for Coltiletti since he took out a trainers license Mrs H D Cox Parity raced to second place and R Pinchot from the Maemere Farm Stable beat Haggerson for third
