SORA BAD ACTOR WINNER Scores His Third Success ofLatonia ofLatoniarf rf rfMeeting Meeting Though Fractious teads Home Ehvawa and Star Banner In InEastern Eastern Avenue Purse Before Increased IncreasedAttendance Attendance at Covington Course LATONIA Ky June 20 The Eastern Avenue urse sixth on the card was the f ea ture event at Latonia Wednesday and it brought together a better than ordinary band of seven twoyearolds for a sprint of five and onehalf furlongs The winner was W E Smiths Sora a son of Byrd and Kitty Yansen and he was scoring his third victory of the meeting The Cattell Stables El wawa finished second a length behind the winner and a bare nose in front of Thomas Piatts Star Banner Wild Gus4Poet Prince Our Bettie and Hank MacTavish completed he field fieldSora Sora after acting fractiously at the post ind delaying the start eight minutes broke from outside the stalls G Fowler who was riding his second winner of the day rushed he gelding into an early lead and turning into the stretch enjoyed a four lengths mar ¬ gin on his closest rivals Elwawa and Star Banner however were patching the winner near the finish and but for being in close quarters on the rail Elwawa might have accomplished the feat Of the others only Our Bettie figured in the running of the race She was closest to the pace for a half mile but then dropped put of it itA A slight increase in attendance was noted this afternoon and the racing was staged under ideal weather and track conditions conditionsIn In the second best race of the afternoon W E Hupps Sun Boy defeated a fair band of sprinters over six furlongs winning in a driving finish with Sweep Like second only a BridgeSun head k before Angon Bridge Sun Boy rated off the pace set by Sweep Like until they were far in the stretch won in the last sixteenth After being headed Sweep Like raced on doggedly and managed to save second money by the barest of margins Angon Bridge all but overtook him himI I Prevail which came in for strong sup port had no excuse though he was clpse clpseup up all the way to the eighth post while Chimney Sweeps failure to get into the pic ¬ ture probably may be attributed to his ab sence from the iaces for nearly a month He also was well back backThe The days racing opened with an easy vic ¬ tory for the Long Run Stables Mary Nell which beat the more favored Scrip Money by nearly three lengths Marynell was hustled into an early lead and maintained a safe margin in front of the cheap field throughout throughoutFair Fair Wanda and Thunder Lou each tried early to carry the ultimate winner but neither of them had anything left when the field reached the stretch Hhere Scrip Money took up the chase and managed to get the place by a short margin over Super Toy ToyR R Cheatham who rode Marynell was aboard his first winner of the meeting Bill Bleiweiss from the W F Axton sta ble which has provided the majority of two yearold capturedthe winners at this meeting captured the maiden event second on the card for juvenile colts and geldings beating John Marcum in a hard drive Only threequarters of a length separated these two as they com pleted the five and a half furlongs while a similar distance back came the well backed Jawapa JawapaBill Bill Bleiweiss led all the way but had to be hustled along every inch of the journey with John Marcum a field horse right at his heels The disappointment of the race was the poor effort of Upside Down which per ¬ formed under the colors of A C Bostwick This colt a first time starter raced greenly but should improve on the race raceThe The W F Axton stable won the Daily Double when after Bill Bleiweiss took the second race Monks Star came on to win the third which also developed a close fin ¬ ish among the first four horses Monks Star Gooseflesh Oderic and Camp Cook were the first four to finish and they were only lengthsMonks separated by half lengths Monks Star displayed the most speed from the start was hustled into a commanding lead but had to be driven hard through the stretch to stave off the bold challenge of Gooseflesh Oderic also closed fast to get a part of the purse purseThe The start was delayed some minutes when the bridle on Bob Custer had to be repaired while Cousin Bess misbehavior contributed more to the delay A Thomas Lady Friend scored an easy victory in the fourth race beating Dancing Boy Babeson and five others over six fur longs After begihnnig in front G Elston took Lady Friend off the pace permitting White Top to show the way to the head of the stretch Here White Top tired and Lady Friend went on to win as her rider pleased by three lengths When she quit White Top dropped far back while Dancing Boy moved into second place and Babeson captured third money Valdosta showed a poor effort under a poor ride by the veteran G Seabo The latter permitted his mount to drop out of it early and then took him wide
