empire cmr OPENS todayI Black Buddy to Make Three-Tear-Old Debut in Best Race of Inaugural Program. YONKERS, N. Y., July 4.— With the close of the Aqueduct meeting this afternoon the racing shifts to the Westchester County course of the Empire City Racing Association. The move from Long Island is always an important one and while for the opening day the fields are not all as large as was expected it is a program that is calculated to bring interesting sport. The best race of the day is the Inwood Handicap, a dash over the short six furlongs, which will bring together seven of the best sprinters now in New York. This promises to show Black Buddy under silks for the first time this year. This colt was winner of the Juvenile and the National Stallion Stakes last year, and early in the season Brennan had some fears he would, not train successfully this year. He has been going along nicely of late and seems ready. Black Buddy will be opposed by good opponents, with Plying Hour, Open Range, Slapdash, Coequel, Bright Haven and Cant Remember to race against him. It is com- ] i pany calculated to try him nicely for his I I first racing effort as a three-year-old. Another condition race for three-year-olds, while it only has attracted four, promises a good contest, with Speedmore, Carry Over, Identify and Bahadur comprising the field. The track on the hill has been brightened and improved, and those who remember it from other seasons will be pleasantly surprised. Paint and flowers have beautified it. Remodeling the grandstand added greatly to its comfort and convenience. The betting enclosure is spacious and conveniently located under the grandstand. Much has been done to the racing strip, and this will be greatly appreciated by the horsemen. A thorough scraping of the top soil and its even distribution, makes the going faster and this should make for more truly run races. Reservations have exhausted stable accommodations, promising an overabundance of horses. The program book is attractive. Never did the season of the Empire City . Racing Association hold brighter promise. The first of the important fixtures of the , meeting will be run Saturday when the Empire City Handicap will be staged. This a . mile and a furlong race, to which ,000 is added, and is a prize of importance in these days of racing. All the first flight handicap , horses are eligible. While it is not expected that Equipoise, the top weight, under 132 | , pounds, will be seen in action, Dark Secret will be in the field, according to present plans. The following Saturday will see the running . i of the Knickerbocker Handicap, one , mile and a sixteenth, with ,500 added. It I attracted many of those named for the Empire City. A third handicap, run on the third I Saturday, is the Yonkers, ,500 added, and at the mile and a sixteenth distance. The fourth special is the East View, a , short six furlongs race, for juveniles. This is another ,500 prize, and among the sixty-seven . nominations are listed the names of f some of the smartest two-year-olds that have been uncovered thus far this season. Almost all the prominent stables will show r their silks during this meeting. Several will 1 race at this course for the first time.
