SEEKS INTERNATIONAL RACE Saratoga Officials Negotiating With Owners of American, English and French Derby Winners. SARATOGA SPRINGS, N. Y., July 18.— Saratoga is singing the siren song to the thoroughbreds — thirty-seven rich features, 1 stakes and handicaps to be run during thiity days of racing, from July 30 to September 1. In that period nearly 50,000 will be distributed among horsemen, an average of more than 0,000 a day. Champions in the various divisions will meet in th« various fixtures, horses of distinction from East and West, North and South vying for the prizes. That is not all. There will be an international race if the efforts of George H. Bull are realized. He plans a special race, adding a large sum of money to a sweepstakes in order to bring together the winner of the Epsom Derby and the Grand Prix and Cavalcade. Arrangements to this effect are now being made. Such a race would be THE racing event of the year. It could not be run until the fall days of the meeting because of the time required to ship the colts to this country. While the international race is in the formative stage, there are many important events assured. They are such notable fixtures as the Hopeful, Saratoga Gold Cup, Saratoga Special, Travers, Saratoga Handicap, Alabama, Whitney, Wilson, Flash, Ken-ner, Sanford, United States Hotel and Grand Union Hotel Stakes and Saranac Handicap. Those who enjoy the thrill of the crosscountry events, the steeplechases, will find in the Beverwyck Handicap, Shillelah, North American Handicap and the Saratoga Steeplechase Handicap, events that always attract jumpers of quality. Winners of these events are frequently sent abroad to take part in the Liverpool Grand National in England. These are the topline events of the meeting. The Hopeful is the richest race for juveniles of the season up to September 1, when it will be run. The distance is six and a half furlongs. It will gross close to 0,000. Many of the great juveniles are reserved until the Spa track opens, the purpose being to develop the strength and the speed of the colts and fillies. The Hopeful at the Spa and the Futurity at Belmont Park are the big objectives. The Hopeful is the longest race for juveniles up to the time it is decided. The distance is almost that of the Futurity, which is 170 feet less than seven furlongs. The Travers, for three-year-olds, one mile and a quarter, will be worth approximately 0,000. The Brookmeade Stables great colts, Cavalcade and High Quest, are named. Their keenest rivals. Peace Chance. Singing Wood, Collateral, Chicstraw, Black Buddy. Spy Hill, Cycle, Elylee and Blue Again are among the eligibles.
