I., July 18.— President Walter OHara received assurances from Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt today that he will send his three-year-old colt, Discovery, to the new ,000,000 Narragansett Park to run in the major handicap events during the August meeting. Discovery, which finished second to the famous Cavalcade in the Arlington Classic last Saturday, will encounter keen competition here. For the first time he will meet E. R. Bradleys four-year-old, Barn Swallow. Bradley has nominated his filly for all the principal handicaps. Other smart members of the division have also been named. Discovery, a three-year-old. colt by Display—Ariadne, and bred by Walter Salmon, owner of the Mereworth Stud in Kentucky, has been the keenest rival -Cavalcade has faced in the big events of the year. Discovery carried the hopes of the Vanderbilt forces against Cavalcade in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Detroit Derby and Arlington Classic. After he had been developed by Jack Pryce, Discovery was sold to young Van-derbilts mother, Mrs. Margaret Amory, for a reported price of 0,000. Mrs. Amory later turned over her stable to her son. The colt is like his famous sire, Display, in many respects. Display reached his greatest heights as a four-year-old and a five-year-old, and was one of the big money winners, ranking ninth with a record of 56,526 in money earned. He started 103 times, won twenty-three races, finished second twenty-five times, third twenty-seven times and was out of the money thirty-. three times. Barn Swallow is in the ,500 Roger Wil-; liams Handicap, August 4; the ,500 Rhode Island Handicap on Labor Day, the ,000 King Philip Handicap on August 11, and the Governor Green Handicap on August 25. Barn Swallow showed her worth in 1933 when she started eleven times, won 0,855 in purses, finished first three times, second four times and was unplaced four times.
