WORKOUTS FOR ARLINGTON HANDICAP ♦ — Brookmeade Stables Inlander and Time Clock Gallop Mile and an Eighth in 1:53 — Ladysman Works Same Distance in 2:04% — Riskulus and New Deal in Final Trials ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., July 18.— Seven of the likely starters in the 5,000 Arlington Handicap, mile and a quarter feature of Saturdays Arlington Park program; were asked for extensive trials this moning by their trainers. That Robert A. Smith is anxious for the Brookmeade Stable to be successful was shown when he sent Inlander and Time Clock a fast mile and a furlong. The two horses went together and were timed in 1:53, both being well in hand at the finish. They were timed the half in :48%, three- quarters in 1:13% and mile in 1:39%. Inlander will be the stable dependence in case of mud, while Time Clock, Florida Derby winner, will be the hope with the going fast. William R. Coes Ladysman also went a mile and a furlong, but was not asked for much speed, as he finished the route in 2:04%. He was sore at the end of the performance, but will be a starter if the trouble is only temporary, as was the case in his last workout. Outside of the soreness, trainer Hugh Fontaine pronounces the 1932 juvenile champion fit and ready for Saturdays engagement. Riskulus and New Deal, which were seen under colors in the Classic, were given their final trials for the Arlington Handicap this morning, with the former going the full distance in 2:11% under steady urging. He was timed the half in :51%, three-quarters in 1:17% and mile in 1:44%. New Deal showed more speed, but only went a mile, which he did in 1:40% with much in reserve after stepping the quarter in :25, half in :49 and three-quarters in 1:13%. His stablemate. Howard, another Classic starter, went a mile in 1:41%. The Brentwood Stables Navanod, winner Continued on twenty-sixth page.
