LADIES DAY AT BAINBRIDGE Pharamaid Repeats in Aurora Claiming Purse, Days Headliner. I Grand Union Outstays Elcidio for Second Place — Marabou Adds to Earnings in Fourth Race. GEAUGA LAKE, Ohio, July 20.— Cool, refreshing breezes swept across the infield at Bainbridge Park this afternoon and made it more comfortable for the fair sex to enjoy Ladies Day. Rain, which fell during the night, made the track slightly slow for the early races, but with a good wind it soon became good. The largest week-day crowd of the meeting was on hand. The Aurora Claiming Purse, scheduled as the feature race and fifth on the program, brought out eight of the best and found Pharamaid racing back to her recent victory here to score a three-quarters length victory over the recent arrival, Grand Union, which easily saved second place from Elcidio. A limit band of two-year-olds went post-ward in the five furlongs first race, with Playsickle, racing under the colors of E. K. Thomas, being returned the winner over Monotone, with the public choice, Jacqueline D., saving the show end of the purse from Hour Lady. The sprint, run over a slow track, brought about a spirited finish, with the winner enjoying a length advantage, with the next three in a blanket finish. Supercharge, coupled with Ivan W. and Traplou in the field, was the winner in a driving finish with Moon Shy second, before Day Letter in the first part of the "Daily Double." Another limit field started in the race, decided over six furlongs, and saw the leaders at the finish* dominating the race soon after the first quarter, with Supercharge holding a slight lead in the stretch while under strong pressure. The public choice in the second event, Shift, which has always been a favorite with Cleveland race goers, began rapidly and was up with the leaders for the first quarter, but lacked speed when called upon. The popular apprentice, H. Manifold, came through with a surprise victory when he piloted Mac Moon in the second half of the "Daily Double," which, coupled with Supercharge, winner of the second race, rewarded their backers with the large sum of 33.60 for a ticket. The winner went postward with eleven others in the third race, which was decided over six furlongs, and saw Last Stand finishing second, a head in advance of the favorite, Beleveitornot. Mrs. J. W. Johnstons Marabou, finding the soft track to his liking, came through in a driving finish to defeat Aurica by a nose with Wild Transit best of the nine others that started in the fourth. Marabou, piloted by jockey Alberts, who also scored with Supercharge, was in a contending position while Aurica was setting the early pace with Polisher and Deferred forcing the issue. On the far turn the latter two gave up the chase and saw Garden Seat and Who Win moving up to the leader with Alberts also calling on the winner, which responded gamely and turning into the stretch had only Aurica to dispose of. Still showing gameness when hard pressed, Alberts got his mount to the front at the finish in the last strides.
