Parrish entry; Brookmeade Stable entry. ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., July 20.— D. A. Woods Indian Runner faces one of the strongest fields yet assembled in the handicap division this season in tomorrows running of the Arlington Handicap, victory in which will give him a clean sweep of the three Arlington Park attractions open to older horses. A dozen three-year-olds and older horses were named for the mile and a quarter stake, which, with all starting, will have a gross value of 313,500. With prospects for a fast track and clear weather. Inlander is the only doubtful starter. Indian Runner, winner of the Arlington Inaugural Handicap and Stars and Stripes Handicap both this year and last, appears a sure favorite, even though he will be the staring top weight under 120 pounds and his opposition includes several of the best three-year-olds that have been chasing Cavalcade. Ladysman will not be a starter, trainer Hugh Fontaine deciding that the colts lameness was too severe to permit him to run. In support of the Arlington Handicap, whose previous runnings have resulted in victories for such notable horses as Misstep, Pigeon Hole, Sun Beau, Plucky Play and Equipoise, racing secretary John B. Campbell has arranged the best all around program of the meeting with the Oakton Purse serving as a qualifying event for the 0,000 Arlington Futurity to be run the following Saturday. Leading the opposition to Indian Runner will be the Calumet Farms Hadagal and the Brookmeade Stables trio of Time Clock, Good Goods and Inlander. Hadagal earned scale weight of 114 pounds by his impressive performance in the Classic, in which he finished third, lapped on Discovery. Previously he had nosed out Indian Runner in a six furlongs sprint that was run in the sizzling time of 1:10%. Hadagals Classic effort was the first in which he had been asked to go a mile and a quarter, while Indian Runner has never raced that far. With the track fast, Good Goods and Time Clock, both three-year-olds, will be the Brookmeade hopefuls. The former has won at the meeting and was a fast going fourth in the Stars and Stripes Handicap, whiie Time Clock, winner of the Florida Derby, Continued on nineteenth page. INDIAN RUNNER FAVORITE FOR ARLINGTON HANDICAP Continued from first page. has been training in exceptional fashion for this engagement. No previous winner of the Arlington Handicap is in tomorrows field, although Mrs. John Hertz Watch Him finished second last year after leading most of the way, only giving way to Equipoise in the stretch. The veteran son of Fair Wind must carry only 106 pounds. Other older horses in the long race are Marmion, Frank Ormont and Nava-nod. Each of the latter two won a handicap at Washington Park. Of the other three-year-olds due to start, Riskulus, at 108 pounds, is expected to come in for heavy support. He ran fourth in the Classic and as far back as March he raced Gallant Sir to a head in the Agua Cali-ente Handicap. New Deal and Howard, composing the J. W. Parrish entry, have been formidable in three-year-old and handicap racing this season. New Deal won the Enquirer Handicap after finishing second in the Illinois Derby. He also was third in the Detroit Derby. Howard ran second in the Latonia Derby, with Time Clock third. The Oakton Purse engages such promising juveniles as Bluebeard, Albuquerque, Fort Springs, Special Agent and Stay, all eligible to the Arlington Futurity, also Roman Soldier, Hasty Glance and Leonard Wilson. A chance that the track record for seven furlongs may be broken is apparent with such speedsters as Barn Swallow, Gay Monarch, Croon, Black Queen, Pairbypair and Evergold due to clash. Barn Swallow must carry 120 pounds in this effort with Gay Monarch, which recently ran three-quarters in 1:10%, due to carry 113 pounds.
