The Latonia Jockey Club will launch its thirty-seven day spring and summer meeting tomorrow afternoon with a program of eight races, the feature of which will be the twentieth running of the Inaugural Handicap. That fixture, along with an attractive array of supporting events, will mark the opening of a meeting which track, officials predict will be one of the most successful in many years. Latonia has the horses a full quota of them and with the return of a modicum of prosperity and horse-mindedness in this area, j the Covington track apparently needs only a fair share of decent weather to be assured a good , meeting. Col. Matt J. Winn, executive director of Latonia, arrived today arid took active charge of the opening. He joined others in their sanguinary outlook for the ensuing thirty-seven days of racing at the Milldale course. The Inaugural Handicap, which is for three-year-olds and upward, and to be contested over a mile and a sixteenth, drew a field of twelve and, weighted as they are, evenly matched. This morning she was given her final blowout for the race and was timed in :47 for a half mile. It was a standout trial over a track not quite at its best. One of Late Dates virtues is that she can run equally well over a fast track or a muddy one, a detail that wont lessen her chances any, although the prospects for tomorrow are for a fast racing strip. Although the Brentwood Stable representative is destined to be the public choice for the Inaugural, she still will have her work cut out for her. Among others she will meet such capable performers as C. H. Fergusons Vitamin B., Morris and Johnstons First Entry, M. J. Conleys My Blaze, T. S. and J. S. Mulvihills Beaver Dam, H. G. Shoemakers Open Hearth, and the Young Brothers Fiji.
