MAYBERRY SUCCEEDS IRVINE Young Trainer Takes Charge of J. U. Gratton String- at Tropical Park Expert Horseman. MIAMI, Fla., April 1. J. P. "Buddy" May-berry, nephew of the late James Arthur, and one of the younger set of trainers on the American turf, has been named as trainer for the J. TJ. Gratton stable, succeeding William Irvine. Mr. Irvine has campaigned the powerful Canadian establishment for many months. Mayberry formerly handled the stables of James C. Fletcher, of Toronto, Canada, one of the leading breeders in the Dominion, and also was in charge of the horses owned by the late James W. Bean, of Washington, D. C, James Arthur, of Green Spring Valley ; all of which were campaigned with considerable success. Mayberry begins his affiliation with the Canadian sportsman at Tropical Park today, and will handle fourteen performers for his new employer, of which the three-year-old Grog is the star of the establishment. There are six juveniles in the string at present, in addition to seven older performers, two of which have been turned out during the winter months; namely, Honeysweet and Golden Way.
