CRYSTAL PAN dashed to the front on the outside approaching the stretch turn and, after taking a short lead, interfered with BON MINT repeatedly during the stretch run and was disqualified for foul and placed second. BON MINT, racing as if best, was forced to go through the deepest going next to the rail in the I stretch and would have won but for interference. TEMPER closed ground and was racing nicely at the finish. GOLDEN IVY tired in the stretch. DENBIGH could not keep up. ANCIENT ROME, close up from the start, took command after entering the last eighth and, racing well to the finish, won handily. TRYSTLAND came steadily around the stretch turn to take a short lead an eighth out, but tired near the end and barely bested VERA CROFTON. The latter made the pace and, although tiring in the stretch, was racing a trifle stronger than TRYSTLAND at the end. SAN JOSE had early speed, but tired in the stretch. RUNNING HEEL closed ground and fell after crossing the finish line. MISS ELIVIA was crowded back at the start and made up some ground on the outside. FRENCH HONEY was forced to race wide. BRILLIANT KING raced to the front at once, held a short lead over GOLD CLASP to the stretch, then drew away from the latter and was in hand at the finish. GOLD CLASP raced close to the winner in the early stages and had no trouble holding the others. RARE TREE always held third place safe. TRANSBIRD was going fast at the finish. TRAITOR, in close quarters right after the start, was shuffled back. MOON ROSE lacked speed and ran below her best form. HAROLD H. raced to the front at once and, drawing away from EL BANDIDO when urged, won by a wjde margin and well in hand. EL BANDIDO was used up following the winner and had little left at the finish. DROMBO made up ground steadily and was going well at the finish. SWEET CHARIOT was forced to race wide, but closed much ground. RISKY MISS was never a dangerous contender and may have needed the race. IN CHANCERY was taken back on the outside in the early running, was permitted to race very wide on the stretch turn and was dropped down in the deep going behind horses in the stretch run. UNCLE FRED, showing much improvement over his last race, was close up from the start and, coming around the outside on the stretch turn, forged to the front in the last eighth and had enough left to hold FAIR MOLE safe. FAIR MOLE was forced to take up when attempting to get through on the inside of MERRY GO ROUND in the back stretch, then came to the outside to finish fast and was gaining on the winner. PASS UP opened up a good lead making the early pace and held on fairly well. GRAYBACK was in. close quarters after entering the back stretch, but came again in the stretch. MERRY GO ROUND saved ground, but raced in the deepest going and was done after being in close quarters in the stretch. - SICKLE-BILL made up ground. Scratched 24480 Blackmail, 103.
