ASTRA, well handled and never far back, saved ground for three-quarters, was steered to the outside of WILLLIAM V. entering the stretch, forged to the front in the last eighth and won drawing away. WILLIAM V. forced the early pace under light urging, took command when ready, was unable to draw clear and tired in the drive. COL. HATFIELD, outrun for five eighths, closed with a rush. CALEB, used up in the pace, tired after offering a bold bid approaching the stretch. STAR ROYAL was in close quarters. TRANSEN quit. RUCKUS had no mishaps. MAEBEE worked her way forward steadily, responded fast after three-quarters, but tired near the end. CAPTAIN RED, a strong factor from the start, held on well. BOURBON ROSE, outrun for three-quarters, closed with a rush. BUGABOO, shuffled back at the far turn, made up ground in the drive. STAR BROOM and GREENSTONE quit.
