1 ARLINGTON DOWNS NOTES Much interest was displayed Friday at Arlington Downs in the return to racing of Maverick, seven-year-old gelding by Rickety Meadow Girl, which for the past four years has been doing cow pony duties at the Waggoner Brothers New Mexico ranch. Maverick was something of a sensation during his two-year-old year, but went amiss and was relegated to the ranch soon after. Since his return to Arlington he was used frequently by Frank Otis, patrol judge, and placing judge Charles F. Henry. The Australian bridle, which was imported from the Antipodes by E. Paul Waggoner, was photographed adorning the head of Pillow Fight, Australian gelding, recently acquired by the Three Ds Stock Farm. One of the pictures made by H. C."Doc" Ashby was sent to the Melbourne Sporting Globe, together with a news story, and the Australian papers undoubtedly will play up the fact that Pillow Fight renews his acquaintance with an "Aussie" bridle, said to be one of the finest of its type made. Head trainer Dick Vestal probably will use the new gear on one of the Three Ds horses during the coming week. J. A. Murphy arrived from Hot Springs with the plater Racketeer and was allotted stalls at Fair Park. Ben Jones returned from his home at Parnell, Mo., and took over the training of the T. C. Worden horses. Jud Alt, agent for A. G. Tarn, stated that Easiest Way, Broad Meadows and Masked Revue were shipped to Narragansett Park from Tropical Park, where they will await the arrival of the main division of the Tarn stable which will be shipped to that point at the close of this meeting. . Oscar Foster returned from his home at Bridgeport, Texas, where he has been for the past several days. In order to make room for four two-year-olds which he will take up in the near future, Eugene Lutz is offering for sale Rock Bruen, Sweet Thing, Dorothy Hicks and Bill Lutz. Lutz hopes to dispose of the quartette before the close of this meeting. William Treavey, of Hawthorne, Rudolpho and Ormula fame, who now makes his home in Dallas, was a visitor Friday. It was his first trip to the track during the current meeting, but he plans on being present for the running of the Derby. Jockey A. Richard left for Chicago and will await the opening of the Aurora meeting. Levie Newton is distributing stakes blanks for the Rockingham Park meeting, which gets under way the latter part of May. A large number of stables are going from here to New England at the close of this meeting. Dan Deering, manager of the breeding division of the Three Ds Stock Farm, announced that J. D. Spreckels III.s Bissagos foaled a bay colt. He is a son of Kilkerry. Marion Allen is confined to his apartment suffering with a mild attack of flu, and during his illness, his brother, Henry Allen, is looking after his horses.
