1 CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES f $ e Mrs. Joseph Brooks of Chicago purchased the three-year-old Woodway from Jake Low-enstein and turned him over to the latters nephew, Charles Lowenstein, to train. Dr. M. E. Southard, veterinarian, has returned from Maryland, to which point he was called to treat several horses, and will remain here through the Downs meeting. Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Grabner, owners of several, horses in training here, are expected to visit the Downs Sunday or early next week. Among the Grabner horses here is the Clark Handicap eligible Spanish Babe. Tearout, Gilbert Elston and Yantis were Clark Handicap eligibles that worked on a muddy track at the Downs Friday. Gilbert Elston and Yantis were sent seven furlongs each, the former in 1:35 and the latter in 1:35, while Tearout navigated six furlongs in 1:27. All breezed throughout their trials. Gratified over the manner in which his Derby candidate Boston Pal is training under A. L. Darnaby, Mayor Charles Thompson of Lexington came over from the Blue Grass metropolis to inspect that three-year-old and others in his stable. In his last work Boston Pal established a new mile speed figure for spring training here by getting over the distance in 1:41 Wednesday. Lending personal attention to the training of his horses, Ike Weil, who commutes frequently between Louisville and his home, in Chicago, came here to inspect the twelve horses he has at the Downs. His string is headed by the fleet filly Slim Rosie, a Clark Handicap nominee. Tomye and Rickey Roo are other older horses in his stable, while the two-year-olds are Commish Gary, Judge Hasten, Ethel Shutta, My Chicadee, Johns Mae, Gene Essa, Boots Greenock, Maxine B. and My Grandson. Weil plans to return to Louisviller after the election in Chicago and will then remain for the entire meeting. Jockey R. Wholey arrived here from Miami and reported immediately to Ralph Macllvain, whose horses recently arrived from Florida. Tom Young has seven horses at the Downs which he will campaign for various owners. The horses are Honor Her, Boston Sound, Brown Man, Tobacco and the two-year-olds Bib, Silver Fleet and Paris Prince.
