J EXCELSIOR HANDICAP NEXT J Winning Horse in Saturdays Finale at Jamaica May Earn ,000 — Juvenile Stake Also. NEW YORK, N. Y.. May 5.— The Metropolitan Jockey Club will close its most successful meeting next Saturday, May 9. The end of the spring session at Jamaica will be marked by the twenty-ninth running of I the Excelsior Handicap, which will be worth more than ,000 to the winning horse. The Jamaica meeting has been featured by some fine contests in the renewals of the various stakes, and a particularly splendid race is looked for in the forthcoming Excelsior. While three-year-olds have been victorious in but two runnings of the Excelsior, some of the stars of this division are expected to compete against older horses in the grand finale. Among these younger eligibles are Bold Venture, from the stable of Morton L. Schwartz, and Memory Book and Brush Hook, from the Greentree Stable of Mrs. Payne Whitney. Among the more prominent of the older horses now fit and ready to run are Psychic Bid, from the Brookmeade Stable; Mrs. W. Plunkett Stewarts Chance Ray, Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts Identify. R. A. Moores Thursday, C. H. Knebelkamps King Saxon, Middleburg Stables Esposa. C. V. Whitneys Roustabout and others. The mile and one-sixteenth stake closed with thirty-four nominations. In addition to the Excelsior, another stake of ,500 added will be offered for two-year-old fillies. This juvenile feature, while established in 1903, was discontinued after the 1932 running, and is now being restored since New York racing has been showing such encouraging figures. A total of sixty-five dainty juveniles will be eligible for the ! Rosedale Stakes, the majority of which have I not as yet been seen under colors. Among the more prominent of those which have I gone o the races are Mrs. W. A. Bridges I Goldey F., Benjamin Lissbergers Juliet W., Orienta Stables Sophie Tucker, and Middleburg Stables Belle Elan.
