The City and Suburban Handicap, another noted spring fixture, was run at Epsom Downs, April 22, with His Reverence the winner over Guinea Cap, Rippon Tor and fifteen others. Rippon Tor is owned by an American, Mrs. Washington Singer. Lord Derby won the important Queens Prize at Kempton Park on April 13, with Guiscarda, a bay gelding by Crosader — Selene. J. H. Whitneys Night Owl was among the unplaced. On the same day and card Feola was the first winner for King Edward on the flat, the horse carrying the colors of Lord Derby, under whose silks the kings horses are racing during the mourning period. George R. C. Foster, an English owner of prominence, died April 9 at the age of 67. He owned a number of useful horses in partnership with Basil Briscoe. They included Commander III., which won the Cambridgeshire last year. Togo Johnstone, the former Australian rider, heads the French jockeys for the present season with nineteen victories to his credit up to April 24. Johnstone was the leading rider in France last year.
