MINDREADER, in the thick of contention early, rallied strongly when reaching the stretch and, closing stoutly, was up in the last fifty yards. LAST TIME had good speed to shake off CATSWEEP, raced into a clear lead, but tired suddenly inside the closing eighth. GRAND UNION worked his way up on the outside and finished with a rush. ATTRIBUTE, badly outrun for five-eighths, finished resolutely when in his best stride. CATSWEEP was under severe urging throughout and had no mishaps. BACKGROUND tired badly in the last quarter mile. CENTERMARCH, away fast and hurried into a brief lead early, drew clear midway of the turn, saved ground, but had to be strongly ridden to withstand DARK DIANNE. The latter, sluggish in the early racing, circled her field when in full stride and finished with a belated rush. BOSCOBEL offered good contention from the beginning and held on willingly in the final drive. BIG FISH obtained racing room on the insde all the way and held on gamely. SOPHRON, hurried into the lead, rallied willingly when put to a hard drive in the last half mile, struck the brush at the seventh fence and outlasted IRISH ENVOY under severe pressure. IRISH ENVOY forced a steady pace from the beginning, made several efforts in the last half mile, but tired badly after getting on almost even terms with the winner at the last jump, where he swerved. CANIENTO raced under restraint for a turn of the field, then raced poorly at his fences to strike several hedges and quit to a walk. ROYAL RIVET ran into the wing at the first jump and fell. SIR BYRON, going in the first flight in the early racing, ran down the leaders readily when reaching the stretch, drew clear and had enough in reserve to withstand SEMESTER. The latter, slower than usual to settle into his stride, gained fast in the last five-sixteenths and came courageously nearing the end. SEA KALE, away well but slow to gain his best stride, circled the field and finished stoutly. BEAU GOVANS closed a good gap. COSMIC PRINCE raced forwardly for five-eighths, then tired. LANGSTAFFE was unable to menace. ARBRANCH quit after five-eighths. MR. WILDWOOD showed early speed. BROADCASTER was held safe all the way. Scratched 26242 Big One, 116. CONTRIBUTE, going in his best form, tired after making a bold effort entering the stretch. OUR TROUBLE finished full of run after being outrun most of the trip. CRATAEGUS failed to rally after moving into contention. BLUE DAMSEL was outrun. NEWELL quit. MELOY was done after a half mile. Overweight Crataegus, 2 pounds. SIXTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES. ROSESILLA raced well placed and came courageously when the final issue came. SPEY CREST was hustled hard to reach the front, was steadied, but failed to stay when, put to a drive.
