DEVILS BANNER raced straight on the outside and, kept in a forward position all the way, responded to pressure in the final eighth, then wore down CHANTING and drew clear. CHANTING sliowed speed under steady restraint after bearing steadily from the inside to the outside, responded when called upon, but could not stand off the challenge of the winner. ETHELS CHOICE was outrun early, improved her position steadily on the inside and wore down PLANETARIUM in the final strides. The latter showed a good effort -throughout but faltered slightly under pressure at the end. WANTARUN showed a flash of early speed while racing greenlv. THOMAS C. showed an even effort. SUMATRA jumped well throughout, followed the pace under steady restraint, moved into command midway of the final turn of the field, but tried to bear out at the turn out of the back stretch and was rank through the final eighth, although winning with speed in reserve. BAFFLER was placed under steady restraint, jumped well, saved ground and finished well under pressure, but could not menace the winner. SWIMALONG showed early speed while jumping well, but tired badly the final turn of the field and was not pei severed with. BLACK BEAN fell at the eleventh fence, while CLONARD fell at the third fence. Overweight Black Bean, 1 pound. THIRD RACE 4 1-2 FURLONGS Widener Course. ADVOCATOR improved his position steadily on the inside and outlasted TOP RADIO in the final drive. The latter was kept forward from the start, was placed under pressure through the final eighth, but hung at the finish. OLD NASSAU improved his position, but could not menace the leaders. NIGHT BUD showed a good effort all the way. NO SIR raced evenly throughout. COUNT ATLAS showed some improvement. SEVENTH INNING raced greenly. SALIAN was fractious at the post. EXHIBIT dropped back off the early pace under restraint, came to the outside in the stretch and finished fast to wear down the leaders and held PRETTY NIGHT safe in the final drive. The latter, a trailer to the stretch turn, moved up fast when called upon and closed gamely under urging. NAUTCH was rushed up fast on the outside, forced the early pace, assumed command rounding the stretch turn and then faltered in the final drive. HIGH FLEET was rushed into command after the break, showed speed under steady restraint, saved ground all the way and held on with good courage at the end. SPLIT SECOND, away well and close to the pace throughout, moved up with determination rounding the stretch turn on the outside, but hung at the end; FLORADORA was outrun in the early stages, responded to urging when called upon and finished with determination through the stretch. MAG MELL closed gamely from a slow beginning. SPANK was outrun to the stretch turn and finished resolutely on the inside. SPRINGLOCK suffered no mishaps.
