OPENING DAY AT AK-SAR BEN Seven Races on Program of Inaugural Card at Omaha Seven Named for Days Headliner. OMAHA, Neb., May 27. Racing secretary Eugene Bury had little trouble filling the first days races at Ak-Sar-Ben field. Owners stormed the secretarys office during the early morning hours to enter their horses and as a result the majority of the events drew large fields. One of the smallest bands of the day was named to go in the Inaugural .Handicap, the afternoons feature. Seven will parade in that affair and but five interests will be represented as two entries are listed. Those that will run coupled up in the Inaugural are Dunlin Lady and Mohac, which will perform as the S. Smith and A. Wise entry. They are trained by Lonnie Copenhaver, successful western horseman, and one of the pair will be ridden by C. Shultz, apprentice sensation of the recently closed Bay Meadows meeting. The other duo in the event is that of Hynes and Beez-ley, Omaha sportsmen. They will send Mar-cia and High Image to the post. Of the seven races down for decision on opening day two are distance affairs at one and one-sixteenth miles, while the Nebraska-bred race is over five furlongs and the two-year-old race at a half mile. Some good two-year-olds will perform in the juvenile affair. Track superintendent James Ronin is justly proud of the condition of the Ak-Sar-Ben racing strip. It has a nice cushion and while it could stand a little rain, is in fine shape. The plant has been brightened up and it will not be the fault of the management if a pleasant afternoon is not enjoyed by all attending the races on opening day. Ak-Sar-Ben is fortunate in having some good jockeys registered at the track. F. Chojnacki, who was the king-pin of the saddle artists during the Aurora meeting, is here with his contract employer, Bruce Johnson, and will vie for honors with Charlie Shultz, leading rider at Bay Meadows. Shultz and Chojnacki met before during the Long-acres meeting at Seattle last summer but both lads have improved greatly since that time. Other capable pilots on the grounds are George Burns, Eddie Phillips, D. Mc-Cown, N. Merritt, R. Tilden, A. Pendergrass, F. Rife, W. Cook, P. Van Pelt, R. Stoddard, H. Simmons and W. Root. Martin Nathanson will be in the stand as presiding steward while all other officials are also capable. They are Eugene Bury, racing secretary and placing judge; Cliff Sanford, clerk of scales and placing judge, an4 John L. Watkins, entry clerk and placing judge. Jack Hudgins, who served at Ak-Sar-Ben last season, will again be the starter, while Carl Marlman will be paddoek and patrol judge, and E. Heffernari, patrol judge.
