WISE ANNE TAKES FEATURE Weant Racer Home First in Agawam Handicap Singing Heart and . Eldee Finish Behind Winner. AGAWAM, Mass., May 27. The green and white silks of Mrs. W. C. Weant were home first in the Agawam Handicap, the six furlongs sprint feature of the opening days card. Mrs. J. V. Stewarts Singing Heart was second, a length and a half back of the winner, while Eldee, from the string of Mrs. K. Laura, made it a clean sweep for the fail" owners, when she took the third portion of the purse. Prince Fox, a stablemate of the winner, was fourth. There was a slight delay at the barrier before starter Ira Gregory found them to his liking, and when he sprang the starting latch they all left in perfect order, with Wise Anne speedily taking over the pace-making task, followed by Richstrike and Eldee, while Singing Heart was in fourth position, next to the inner rail, in somewhat close quarters. At the turn out of the back stretch, Singing Heart attempted to squeeze through between Richstrike and Eldee but was shuffled back. All this time Wise Anne was racing easily, two lengths in the van. Entering the home stretch, Singing Heart came to the outside but despite the courageous effort she made in the stretch turn, could never menace the winner, the latter passing the final wire under mild pressure, a length and a half in the fore. The sudden thunderstorms that struck the course shortly before the opening of the first race, somewhat cut down the attendance, but close to 7,000 were on hand when the bugle called them to the post for the first race. Before the afternoon was over, the storm clouds passed away, and bright sunny, skies again greeted the fans. The racing strip was at its best, the showers being to its advantage.
