WIDENER TAKES OVER TROPICAL NEW YORK, N. Y., May 27 On excellent authority there comes a revival of the rumor that next winter the Tropical Park course in Florida will be under the control of Joseph E. Widener, the directing genius of Hialeah Park. It has also been said that William Vincent Dwyer, as formerly, will have charge, but that the Widener interest will control. There is additional force lent to the rumor in the unfortunate financial condition of the Cincinnati Jockey Club, which races at the Coney Island course. This, another of the Dwyer ventures, is in the hands of a receiver who has recommended that the property be sold. Should Mr. Widener obtain the controlling interest of Tropical Park, as now seems reasonably certain, it will put all the Florida racing under his control, for all other efforts to have thoroughbred horse racing outside of Dade County in Florida have long since been abandoned as losing propositions. Under the Dwyer management and control the racing at Tropical Park was built up to first importance and last winter the season was the most successful ever conducted at the Coral Gables course, so that Mr. Widener will be taking control of a winner.
