CARE FOR hurried into a contending position soon after the start, challenged strongly midway of the final turn, moved into a slight lead in the last eighth, but tired approaching the finish and barely lasted to Outstay SUNCRAX. The latter, unruly at the post, had good speed to take early command, was steadied until challenged, then came again in the late stages after being overhauled. SONNY JOE raced on the outside and within striking distance of the leaders, but could not threaten seriously in the closing drive. SUN MICA was under strong pressure while saving ground, but was not good enough. ELIZBTH FARLEY could not threaten. FLYING VIM and LITTLE BANNER were outrun. Overweight Little Banner, 1 pound. FRANCIS, reserved olf the pace for the First turn of the field, was steadied to his fences after moving into contention, overhauled CHALICE after clearing the twelfth fence and drew into a safe lead and had much in reserve at the end. CHALICE sprinted into a clear lead early, fenced nicely at all of her fences, but could not stay with the winner when challenged. SPINACH was allowed to rate back of the pace, then closed gamely on the inside in the final drive. DUNDRILLIN raced in the first flight and showed a good effort. TROYER tired in the last half-mile. SYRIAC could not reach a forward position. MATAGAIN was never a factor. TELEMARK and DONTARA were badly outrun. Scratched 26204 Galley Girl, 140. Overweight Syriac, 3 pounds; Telemark, 4. MINEY MYERSON, in the thick of contention from the start, rallied strongly to run down BARTERING KATE inside the final eighth, withstood a hard drive willingly and barely lasted to stall off GENIE PALATINE. The latter, badly outrun after breaking swiftly, swung to the outside in the last five-sixteenths and closed with a bold rush. BARTERING KATE displaced WAR JEWEL midway of the turn, saved ground and continued stoutly until the close. MY SURPRISE worked his way up on the outside and came courageously in the final drive. MORE NEWS came between horses in the last quarter mile and finished stoutly. SANDSTONE raced forwardly, but tired in the last eighth. TOP DOG suffered interference by crowding at the turn out of the back stretch and could not. menace thereafter. GRAND DUKE had a rough trip. WAR JEWEL quit badly. The latter furred a steady early pace, saved ground throughout and held on better than usual. TEDSIM finished with good courage. FRISCO KID raced on the outside and could not threaten seriously. JAY JAY, quick to get going, assumed a short lead in the first quarter mile, shook off BILLY BEE when reaching the stretch and drew out steadily approaching the finish when kept under strong pressure. INDOMITABLE was rushed into a contending position leaving the back stretch, gained nicely to better his position, but was unable to threaten the winner seriously in the final drive. MOWER raced close up from the beginning, but tired under punishment in the last eighth. BILLY BEE had to be hard ridden to maintain a forward position, saved ground all the way and held on well. CYCLE, forced to race on the, outside, could not improve his position at any stage. LEMONT secured racing room on the inside, but could not reach the leaders. ENERGETIC LADY, a keen factor early, displaced PETARD when reaching the final turn, saved ground and held on stoutly to the end. EUDES bettered his position on the outside and came with good energy in the final drive. WISE WILL dropped back when caught in close quarters leaving the back stretch, swung to the outside and finished determinedly. PETARD tired When caught. INFERNO LAD dropped back immediately after the break, then failed to threaten when put to punishment. PEEDEEQUE had early speed. MAD FRUMP was never a factor. QUEEN ELIZABETH, slow to get going, was steered wide while improving her position and finished full of run. She would have been much closer with more intelligent handling. SILVERY CLOUD showed a good effort. ROSS lost ground on the turns, but raced well. LEE LAFFOON was unable to threaten. RUDENIA and MISS JONES were used up early. ARGUEFICATION quit badly. .
