PORT O PLAY, squeezed back on the first turn and taken to the outside as he started to move up after reaching the final half mile, stood a hard drive gamely and was best of the others. The latter, well up from the start, secured room on the inside in the stretch and closed gamely under strong handling, but failed to get up. CHARMING SIR, forced to race wide throughout, moved uj slightly on the far turn, took command tinder vieorous urging when entering the stretch and, holding on tenaciously, shook off TERRIER and ROBERTA and withstood the challenge of REGARDS, but barely lasted. The latter, on the inside throughout, failed to keep up on the turn, but came determinedly when straight in the final quarter and just missed getting up. STEALINGAWAY, a factor from the start and probably best, was shuffled about on the turn, rallied slowly when clear on the outside in the stretch and was strongest of the leaders at the end. ROBERTA, under light restraint early, responded when called upon in the stretch, but tired after nearing the lead. , TERRIER was under strong riding the final three-eighths and also tired when the real test came. Holt; bred by Mr. A. B. Gordon. Winner entered to be claimed for ,700. WENT TO POST 6:01. AT POST 3 minutes. Start poor and slow. Won easily; second and third driving. SLEEPY JOE, fractious at the post and away in motion, made the early pace under restraint, increased his margin gradually when placed to light urging and had something left. SPANISH LAD, also rank at the post but away well, saved ground while racing under restraint the first three-quarters, came out in the stretch and held on well, but was unable to endanger the winner. JUSTA SHEIK, away slowly, saved ground throughout, moved up when entering the stretch, but tired in the drive. LADY-FEDERAL, rated under restraint for five-eighths, tired in the stretch; NORMAN D. had no excuses. WILD WEST dropped out of it after a quarter and did not threaten thereafter. Corrected weight Erech, 112.
