ROCKINGHAM FINALE NEAR Meeting Closes Thursday With ,000 Bennington Handicap as the Stellar Feature. SALEM, N. H., Oct. 17. Rockingham enters upon the final lap of its meeting tomorrow afternoon with a small profit on the meeting assured despite the fact that the management has had the worst sort of break in weather on nearly every one of its big days with the exception of Columbus Day, when the largest crowd of the season turned out for the sport. It appears that the average handle will run around 25,000, possibly more. That figure would have been bettered considerably except for the fact that Saturday was a windy day and torrential rain fell on the course. That was the final opportunity the management had to achieve a big handle. Cold and damp weather has jinxed the session since the outset and most of the milder days have occurred during the week. Thursday, the final day of the session, will see the decision of the most valuable stake that has been offered here and the best handicap performers on the grounds are slated to go to the post. The race is the Bennington Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward at, a mile and an eighth and it carries an added value of ,000. It is probable that the best horses which accepted-the issue in todays General Green Handicap will go to the post. Among the expected starters are Accolade, Tugboat Frank, Gallant Gay, Howard and Sun Archer; It is likely that a top heavy field will try for the distance test. Secretary Jim Monroe has conditioned a well balanced program for the final days, one that offers owners of all types of horses a chance to get shipping money. Favorites have been doing better the past few days here and the play has increased accordingly.
