SPRING MOON HANDY VICTOR Finds Muddy Track to His Liking Disagreeable Conditions Mar Dufferin Opening. TORONTO, Ont, Oct. 17. Spring Moon, three-year-old home-bred daughter of Frisius and Summer Moon, racing for the Erindale Stable of Toronto, accounted for the running of the British Consuls Handicap, opening day feature of the Dufferin Park fall meeting, when she raced to a handy two and one-half lengths victory over Mrs. J. Badames Trey at the end of the six and one-half furlongs journey. Spearman, from the Four La Stable, took third honors, a length "and one-half back and two and one-half lengths before M. Maceys Learoyd. Spring Moon was well handled by T. Aimers and raced the distance in 1:25, good time in the muddy going. A large crowd was in attendance for the opening, but rain fell all during the program, which, with the low temperature, made it uncomfortable. There was a three and "one-half minutes delay at the start, with Spring Moon and Spearman the chief offenders, and both were placed on the outside of the gate. Starter Clark sent the field away in good order and Aimers had the Erindale filly up fast on the outside and soon had taken command. Rounding the lower turn Spring Moon drew clear, while Trey raced in second place and Penabud was third, slightly in advance of Learoyd. In the run through the front stretch and around the paddock turn, Spring Moon was steadied along two lengths in advance of Trey, while Learoyd had moved up to third place and Spearman had advanced to fourth. Rounding the lower turn again Trey began advancing on the pacemaker and Spearman was moving up to Learoyd. Aimers again called upon the Frisius filly and she came away again and had a two and one-half lengths lead at the end. Trey continued gamely and easily held off Spearman, which had moved forward to take third place before Learoyd.
