6 FILLY VICTIM OF RICE STRAW Oaklawn Stewards Exonerate All Connected With Eleanor C. for Recent Poor Showing in Race. HOT SPRINGS, Ark., March 31. Following a thorough investigation and careful weighing of the reports of Dr. P. A. Johnson, track veterinarian, for the Arkansas Racing Commission, and Dr. C. N. Finch, the stewards at Oaklawn Park exonerated all for the poor showing of the mare Eleanor C. on March 24. The text of the report made to the stewards by the veterinarians follows: "We, the undersigned, have gone thoroughly into the case of Eleanor C. and believe to the best of our knowledge she was in good shape the morning of her bad race, having worked well for same, but was the victim of rice straw, used as bedding, which we find this season is causing a sudden rise of temperature and a light impaction. "All trainers as a rule, take the hay away from horses the morning of their race, and they are liable to eat this bedding. "We do not believe, in our opinion, that there was any fraudulent intent on the part of anyone. The saliva test was taken and found no evidence of any sedative. Signed "C. N. Finch, "P. A. Johnson."
