1 CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES $ George Brooks returned to Churchill Downs with the division of the Shady Brook Farm stable, which he campaigned in New Orleans this winter. The stable, owned by Theodore E. Mueller, raced the following horses at the Crescent City tracks: Abanico, Aba, Birr, Facula, Espania, Lagata, Azafran, Chauvenet and Visigoth, while those left in Kentucky were looked after by R. P. Brooks. According to word received here, Paul Morris intends to ship the horses of Mrs. Floyd West of Dallas to Kentucky for the spring season. The racers are being rested for the present at New Orleans and are expected to reach Kentucky before the opening at Keeneland. Apprentice H. Romaine is attached to the West stable and has given a call on his services to the Shady Brook Farm. R. A. Kindred, who formerly trained the horses of the late Charles Bachrach and during his career conditioned a number of stars, including Myrtlewood, is assembling a stable for spring racing in Kentucky. He is prepared to take over other horses in adidtion to those for which he is now negotiating. Emerson F. Woodward, master of Valdina Farms stable, is in the city and spent the past several mornings at Churchill Downs, where his large stable is under the care of J. J. Flanigan. Valdina has been a liberal subscriber to stakes to be run at Keeneland and . Churchill Downs this spring and the colors promise to play a big part in the racing at the two Kentucky tracks. The stable harbors several candidates for the Kentucky Derby. Four more horses belonging to Mrs. R. J. Murphy, of Evansville, Ind., have been taken up by and placed in training at Douglas Park. They are Lady Confucius, Stepin-anna, Ima Greenock and Lucky Amelia. Tke stable has several head at Churchill Downs with still others to come from Lower California. Sherrill Ward, who stopped off in Lexington for a day, got here Sunday to take charge of the horses he shipped here from Columbia, S. C. Fifteen of the nineteen he has. at the local track are. two-year-olds," and owners represented in the large string are A. B. Hancock, J. N. Camden, R. A. Firestone and Dr. Asbury. Lenpola, owned by Firestone and among the four older members of the stable, is a candidate for the Kentucky Oaks. Three other older horses are Russmor, Recussion and Presumption. Besides Co-Sport, Birt Friends Kentucky Derby candidate, the horses R. T. Runnels brought here from Miami were Layover, American Byrd and Star Bud. He may take two or three others shortly. Jockey Lee Pichon, and his brother, Teague, were arrivals from New Orleans, where the former was seen in the saddle during the winter months. Teague stopped off in the Crescent City en route from California. The horses that Mose Goldblatt, Cincinnati turfman, campaigned at Miami, arrived at Churchill Downs last week, and Goldblatt, who stopped off at his home, arrived Tuesday. He has several horses in training at Lexington, included among them the good racer Silversmith, and probably will have a dozen for campaigning here this spring. The winter unit consisted of Dnieper, Black Buddy, Jamboree, Dr. Menendez and Trap Nest. Kenneth Russell, former jockey who starred in the Goldblatt colors, brought the horses from Florida. Tom Young, track superintendent at Churchill Downs and Lincoln Fields, is expected back from Chicago Wednesday. He went to the Illinois track Sunday to lay qut more of the work in connection with preparing the plant for the meeting opening Decoration Day.
