PIMLICO HONORS BATTLESHIP To Name Steeplechase in Kcnor of Grand National Winner Working on Chase Course. BALTIMORE, Md., April 5. Battleship, winner of the Grand National at Aintree this year, will be honored at Pimlico this spring when the Maryland Jockey Club will name one of the feature steeplechase events after the great son of Man o War. The action is a fitting one, as Battleships first steeplechase victory was in the Billy Barton Steeplechase at Pimlico, that event having been named in honor of Howard Bruces famous jumper, which ran second in the Grand National in 1928. That the steeplechase course at Pimlico will be ready for the 1938 spring meeting seemed more certain than ever today. The infield, for the first time since early January, was clear of the heavy machinery used for the removal of the famous old Hilltop. William duPont was a visitor here today to confer with Chester F. Hockley, chairman of the committee charged with supervising the grading work on the seeding of the infield and the planning of the new steeplechase course.
