KNOWING BIGSURPRISE Scores After Particularly Dull Showing in Previous Race. Dominates Orlando Purse at Tropical Park From End to End Jockey Schieh Stars. CORAL GABLES, Fla., April 7 Carrying 113 pounds and displaying his best brand of speed after turning in a dull performance in his last start, Longchamps Farms Knowing, five-year-old chestnut son of Dunboyne Friars Love, upset calculations when he sped to a front running success in the Orlando Purse, fifth and principal attraction at Tropical Park today. Opposed by four other shifty sprinters, with Stubbs enjoying the bulk of support, only to turn in a very poor effort, fhe start found Knowing, under particularly alert handling of jockey Sterling Young, good enough to dominate from the ring of the bell until the end. The gelding sped along with a clear lead after the opening furlong and at the close was leading Lady Higloss of the Miss A. Doris barn by little more than a length, as Little Jock took third before Marson and the dull going Stubbs. MINUTES LOST AT GATE. In the feature several minutes were lost at the gate before the start was obtained and Knowing, showing much more alertness at the start, was first out of the stalls. Jockey S. Young had the gelding in stride almost immediately and he was able to putfoot his company and, in contrast to all of his other starts, Stubbs was last of the party. Knowing was racing kindly as he led the way, with Lady Higloss in chase and just before Mar-son and Little Jock. Cutting the corner on the stretch turn, the Longchamps Farms sprinter had Lady Higloss beaten and he was over the line with a length and one-quarter as his final margin. Little Jock was beaten two lengths for the place, while Stubbs was in last place, six lengths back of Marson. Conditions were pleasant for the twenty-eighth day of the Gables meeting and several close and exciting finishes Icept the large gathering highly enthused. PRIPO BEST. The talent began the day auspiciously when Pripo, from the T. H. Heard, Jr., stable, performed to expectations in accounting for the opening event of the afternoon, a test of six furlongs fashioned for maidens. The score of Pripo came in easy fashion when she came to the line seven lengths in " advance of Bay Stout, a rank outsider, while Carolina Kid took third. Carolina Kid and Social Sea were quickest to get into racing stride to lead the way down the far side of the track. Both shortened strides, however, before the front stretch was reached, and it was here that Pripo, coming from sixth place, sped to the front, after which she opened up in commanding style. Pinchot captured honors in the second race, at six furlongs. Coming from behind and finishing boldly between horses, the veteran seven-yeai-old gelding dropped his nose down on the line to score by inches over Stingy, while Speed Limit and Stavka figured in a dead heat for third as the favorite, Bernardirie W., was a nose back to lead the others. Jockey F. Schieh, who was aboard the first two winners of the day, made it three in a row when he drove Dark May, a well-backed choice, to victory over seven other three-year-olds in the third race, a gallop of one mile and sixty yards. The score came in easy fashion when the daughter of Dark Hero dominated all of the running to register by three lengths. Blue Flame was an easy second when she finished six lengths in front of Jane K. Five older platers measured strides in the fourth race that was another test over the three-quarters distance, and once again the judges called upon the camera before deciding between two of the five starters. In this Mixwell gained premier honors for Miss A. Doris, and it was the second time during the present meeting that he met stern opposition from Ladfield, which figured in a dead heat when they last met. The pair finished a length and one-half before Rebekah.
