USE ICE NICKELS IN PHONES PALO ALTO, Calif., April 25. Officials of the local telephone company finally discovered why their collections among the fraternity houses were not as good as they should have been. Fraternity brothers from Stanford University used ice nickels when they made their telephone calls. They froze water into molds. When the collectors came to empty the coin boxes they found nothing but water and threatened to discontinue the service unless the boys paid up in full, which they did.
