DEER FLY, never far from the pace, responded gamely to urging in the stretch and, coming very fast on the outside, wore down SHASTA RACKET to win under pressure. SHASTA RACKET, excellently rated, withstood a challenge from COLDWATER on the far turn, another from SIRGAY on the stretch turn and a third from DON GUZMAN after entering the stretch, but was all out at the end and could not resist the winner. DON GUZMAN, shut off and forced to take up on the first turn, came to the outside to make his run and challenged gamely in the stretch, but was inclined to bear in and tired near the end.
