JOCKEY R. ECCARD BADLY INJURED IN AUTO MISHAP HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., April 25. Jockey Ralph Eccard, of Chewsville, Md., contract rider for L. E. Ogle, is in St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, suffering from internal injuries, following an automobile accident in which one woman was burned fatally and three others suffered severe injuries early Monday morning. The car driven by Eccard is reported to have crashed into a disabled car on the Frederick Road near Ellicot City, Md., and the impact threw the stalled car into a third car. Two of the machines burst into flames, and Mrs. May Welles, 23 years old, of Baltimore, was fatally burned. The others injured are James Hilton and Mrs. Sadie Miller, relatives of the dead woman, and Barry Hartle, who was riding with Eccard. Eccard was quoted as saying that he "fell asleep at the wheel." The condition of the injured rider was uncertain here today, pending the outcome of X-ray examinations.
