! j LATONIA CARD REVISED Substitute Races for Fourth and Fifth Regular Contests. Second Race Split and Sections Run as Second and Fourth Ramrod Driving Winner of Fourth, LATONIA, Ky., Oct. 6". Cold, dreary weather and a program re-vamped when the original fourth and fifth races were declared off this morning, was on tap at Latonia this afternoon. To take the place of one of the canceled races, the original second race was divided and it served as the second and fourth events. A substitute race was drafted after scratch time, and it replaced the original fifth event. With the best contests going by the boards, only an ordinary card was offered, and the only races not carrying the claiming clause being the split race for maiden two-year-olds. In spite of the poor card, form prevailed, the fourth popular score coming with the substitute fifth race when Mrs. Edward Haughtons Ramrod was a driving winner. After leading the-field of eight to the final sixteenth, One Night was unable to withstand the winner, but was six lengths before the fractious Butch, the third horse. LONG POST DELAY. After another of the several long post delays caused chiefly by Butch, the field got away in good fashion with One Night sprinting into a commanding lead during the: opening quarter. Butch was in second place and Oriental Miss showed the way to the winner. Entering the stretch Charles Charlton steered Ramrod to the inside and, steadily wearing down One Night, took command when One Night bore out. The finish found the winner a half length before One Night. In the second half of the original second race for maiden two-year-olds and fourth event, J. Graham Browns Ours emerged the i winner when he gained a nose decision over Chestnut Bur at the end of six furlongs, j Gibbys Tornado was third, six lengths far-j ther back. For five-sixteenths Chestnut Bur, Ours, Gibbys Tornado and The Chord raced j heads apart, but near the final quarter Ours i forged to the front and with Chestnut Bur holding on gamely the pair drew away from the four others. The winner, a son of Upset and Flora Wildair, swung wide at the stretch turn and Chestnut Bur regained the lead, but it was only momentarily, for the winner came again to outgame him during the run to the wire. Windshield made it two victories in a row when he was a driving and popular winner Continued on thirty-fourth page. LATONIA CARD REVISED Continued from first page. of the first race. Capt. Nadi was second and Courtaway third. Ridden by George South and on the inside and deepest going for a quarter, Windshield began to pick up the leaders when steered to the outside and, subduing Capt. Nadi when inside the final sixteenth, he reached the finish a length be-1 fore him. Courtaway had the speed to the stretch, where he began to tire. Black Buddy, a well regarded third choice, showed little to justify his support. Getaway Jack, a son of Jack Horgan and : Flo Vennie, carried G. H. Marlmans colors to his first and an easy victory in the second race, for maiden two-year-olds, which , was divided when the program was re-; vamped this morning. Buff Ryan was second, two lengths back of the winner and three lengths before Mooncoin, the third : horse. Brotherly, the favorite, appeared not to favor the off track and only led Oddesa Romeo to the finish. George South was astride his second win- ner, also a favorite, when he scored in de- cisive fashion with H. G. Shoemakers Fountain Head in the third race at six furlongs. Eight lengths back of the son of Supremus 1 was Chanceful, with third honors going to 1 Just Arrived. After being in motion when the start came, the winner gave way after the first few strides. However, it was only momentarily and he was clear of the eight j others when entering the final half-mile. Steadily increasing his advantage, the fin-- ish found the winner well in hand. . . . i i ; , .
