WISE DUKE IN THRILLER TORONTO, Ont., Oct. 6. Wise Duke, chestnut five-year-old Wise Counsellor and Desire gelding, racing for Mrs. M. M. Johr, and a recent arrival from Detroit, accounted for the Oakville Purse in thrilling fashion. Ridden by M. Calvert for his second victory of the day, the Johr colorbearer lasted to have a nose margin before P. Mecklenburgs Listaro at the end of the six furlongs. G. F. Potters consistent Penabud was in third place, two and one-half lengths back of the leading pair. The Oakville Purse featured the second day of the Long Branch meetings eight-race program. Clear, sunny skies prevailed for the sport, while the track was in a heavy condition from the rains of Wednesday. The riding of M. Calvert featured the days entertainment when he piloted the Midway Stables Ifster to a surprise victory and Wise Duke in the running of the feature.
