LATONIA CUP NOMINATIONS Response Exceeds Expectations of Racing Secretary W. H. Shelley. Weights for Covington Stakes to Be Released Today Little Nymph Has Her Final Trial. LATONIA, Ky., Oct. 6. Although nominations for the ,000 added Latonia Cup do not close until midnight, early entries for the race, to be run over the gruelling journey of two and one-quarter miles, far exceed the expectations of racing secretary William H. Shelley. Renewed annually as a feature of the Latonia fall season, the Latonia Cup is one of the most widely known of the distance races and listed among its winners are some of the greatest cup performers during the past score of years. Considered one of the best stayers of the year through victories at Thistle Down Park and Detroit at distances from one and one-half miles up to two miles, Double R. will face his greatest task. He will be opposed by Star Banner, Little Nymph, which finished second to Tunica in the Twin City Handicap last Saturday, Giasby, Butter Beans, Jeffersontown, Rhimeda, Son Richard, Kievs Pennant, Russia, Stepinanna, Malicious and others. Malicious made the journey from Chicago for the Cup and unloaded at Latonia this afternoon. Secretary Shelley expected several additional nominations before closing time, and the weights for the stake will be released tomorrow morning. Trainers of the first four horses will share in a 450 prize. The trainer of the winner will receive 200, second horse 125; third, 75, and fourth 50. Little Nymph had her final drill for the race over a muddy track this morning when she turned a mile in 1:48. The daughter of Bull Dog went along evenly and W. L. Johnson had her well in hand at the end. Double R. went a handy six furlongs in 1:22.
