1 LOUISVILLE TURF NOTES and s A car containing the horses trained by R. T. Runnels, Pete Battle and Milton Rieser were shipped to Miami Thursday. William H. Shelley, racing secretary at Churchill Downs, Latonia and Lincoln Fields, left for Miami. He will remain there the greater part of the winter, but will visit with his son, Robert, during the Oriental Park season. Judge Shelley served as racing secretary at Oriental Park for ten years. Tunica, leading handicap performer during the Kentucky fall season and several others trained by C. C. Norman, will remain at Churchill Downs for the present. J. Desopo, owner of Tunica, is considering shipping the son of Desperate Desmond to California for the Santa Anita Handicap. Twenty-eight horses, the property of Emerson F. Woodward, owner of Valdina Farms and in charge of trainer J. J. Flanigan, departed for Miami Thursday. Jockey Earl Steffen and apprentice Nunzio Pariso accompanied the shipment. Piers for the field stand now under construction on the back stretch fronting the upper turn are being set. The stand when completed will accommodate 10,000 fans and will house a wagering pavilion. Tom Young, track superintendent, stated Thursday that unless bad weather prevents the stand will be erected long before the opening of the spring meeting. Judge Sam C. Nuckols, Sr., is expected at his home in Versailles for a short visit after the close of Narragansett Park. He will serve as steward at Tropical Park and Oriental Park. Judge Nuckols is one of the stewards at Churchill Downs and Latonia. .
