AFFIRMATION BY HEAD Withstands Long Stretch Drive to Defeat Game Chancer. Finishes Three-Quarters on Muddy - Narragansett Course in 1 :13 Heavy Fog Blocks Traffic. PAWTUCKET, R. I., Nov. 18. Geata Ir-rain Stables Affirmation ploughed through the mud to win the three-quarters Misquam-icut Purse, which featured the next to final day of the New England season at Narragansett Park. At the end, Earl Maloney, who has been riding in vastly improved form recently, had the son of Runantell a head clear of Paul Andolinos Chancer. Mrs. - M. R. Johnsons Believer, ridden by Mose Merrill, splashed to victory through the slop in the opening number, at six furlongs. The winner, which ruled favorite in the betting, finished out in 1:14 to beat the Arcturus Stables Stella Mc by two and a half lengths. G. F. Mitchells Nedrow was third, two and a half lengths off the runner-up and a length and a half in front of Vitox. Proteus broke from outside the gate and had a bulge at the start, but it did him little good. He could not keep up in the drive. Believer went by - Stella Mc on the turn, had a clear lead straightening away for home and was drawing off all down the stretch. R. A. Johnsons Imitra, under a stout ride from Jimmy Lynch, won the three-quarters event that was second on the program by two lengths over W. C. Delcambres Whitdel, the early pacemaker. Willie Carrolls Ample finished third, another half length back, with Easter Thorn a close fourth. The winners time was 1:16. Imitra drove to the leading Whitdel on the tuin, took the van in the run to the eighth mark and drew " away from that point. The track, sloppy for the opener, was muddy for this contest. Hi-Rythm was impeded sharply on the back stretch and knocked out of the race. MEDIUS DIES BY NECK. O. L. Fosters Medius Dies swept up fast in the stretch to win the three-quai-ters third event by a neck over Miss C. C. Morros More Poise. F. L. Moores Elwawa, the pacemaker, hung right on the wire to lose the place by a head. Dunlilt was fourth. The winner was ridden by Harry Krovitz and completed the journey in 1:14. Shaw, carried Jimmy Lynch to a riding double when he drove home a neck in front of Quaternary. Mexico City was only a nose off the runner-up, while Gala Nutter, the favorite, was never a contender and finished sixth. Chispa went out to make the early running, but could never gain on her opponents. Cape Race had raced into contention immediately and rounding the far turn moved up to challenge for the lead. Chispa called it a day and then Quaternary moved up to challenge Cape Race. The two raced head and head, neck and neck all the way through the final three-eighths, with Cape Race refusing to give an inch under a punishing ride.
