Allocation of stall space for the Oaklawn Park meeting beginning here February 27 and ending April 1 with the fourth running of the Arkansas Derby, will begin in St. Louis November 29 when racing secretary Eugene Bury meets with general manager P. J. Holmes, Charles J. Cella, John Condon and other officials to decide upon important points of policy to be pursued during the 1939 season. According to Holmes, applications for stall space at this time exceed those of last season. He said that the track, which has 900 stalls, has never been able to meet all demands in that respect since it reopened several years ago. JUVENILE RACING. The most important decision to be made at the St. Louis meeting, said Holmes, was that regarding races for two-year-olds. He pointed out that Oaklawn Park has always co-operated with the National Association of State Racing Commissioners and that organization has gone on record against the racing of juveniles early in the season. He intimated that owners granted stalls at the Arkansas track will be asked to limit the number of two-year-olds in their shipments. But he also said that because of previous commitments a number of races for horses of that age will be found in the condition books. Oaklawn will begin to receive horses December 15, and the track will be ready for workouts shortly after January 1.
