BILLABONG, suited in the footing, raced into the lead going to the first turn, was steadied nicely to withstand repeated challenges, then held on with excellent courage to outstay ELLACAW. The latter, away well but permitted to drop out of early contention, gained on the outside to improve her position and finished gamely under punishment. PASCUA was a strong contender from the start and held on stoutly after making strong efforts. DROSERA was kept in the deeDest footing on the inside from the beginning and held on well to the end. TOPEE closed a good gap. REPELLER closed strongly from a slow beginning. GAONA could not threaten seriously. SISTER ANN labored in the footing. Scratched 68305 Carouse, 120. GOLDEN SILENCE raced PATSEY BEGONE into submission, was kept in the better footing and fought it out strongly when placed to punishment. LADY ORCHID worked her way up on the outside and came full of run at the close. GREAT HASTE was ridden hard for the entire trip and was best of the others. NANSEMOND made up some ground in the late stages. PATSEY BEGONE tired after reaching the stretch. BARTERING KATE could not menace. KEENE JACK was outrun. WHY TARRY broke flatfooted and was far back most of the trip. ENGLISH HARRY displayed SUMMER HAIL midway of the back stretch, was taken into a clear lead, responded gamely to punishment in the last eighth and stuck it out gamely to the end, then pulled up lame. SIMOON broke sluggishly, improved his position stoutly after getting settled in the back stretch, came to the outside of the winner and fought it out willingly. FINE AIRS was prominent from the start and closed gamely, but could not reach the first two. SANDY MEADOWS improved his position steadily, but was no threat. PIRATE KING raced in spots. SUMMER HAIL was done after going three-quarters. MAN AT ARMS could not keep up early and was taken very wide in the late stages. VOODOOISM closed an immense gap. WANTED tired badly. TOP MAN was pinched off in the opening eighth while racing on the inside, found racing room and closed with good courage. CHALMAC, outrun for a half mile, came stoutly in the late stages. HONEY CLOUD was taken under light restraint after going to the front on the first turn, met strong contention from CLODION, saved ground entering the stretch, came again after being displaced and finished in a dead heat. CONQUER was rated close to the leaders while racing on the outside, engaged HONEY CLOUD on the final turn, raced into a short lead in the last eighth, then hung right at the end. CLODION, kept on the inside of HONEY CLOUD from the start, made frequent bids and held on with good energy. HIGH VELOCITY failed to keep up with his opponents and could not threaten. ROOM SERVICE was hard ridden, but was not good enough. PLAYMORE was under steadying reserve for the first mile, was sent up on the inside of the winner on the final turn, then floundered when kept in the deeper footing. ISLEWORTH improved his position gradually when shaken up and came with good courage to outfinish KINDACORN. The latter was badly outrun and bettered her position by saving ground. INTERPRETER was taken very wide from the beginning and tired fast. SOME BOY trailed far back and was never a factor. YAMMER was displaced after going seven-eighths, then fell back badly. NANCY MAE raced well placed and saved ground, but could not keep up. WRENACE could not get to the leaders. MAD FRUMP, in hand for the first mile, tired when shaken up.
