FLEET S1LVERETTE WINS C .-Soft Narragansett Strip Made to Order for Watts Mare. Unpleasant Conditions for Final Day of Meeting Blade Edge Takes Distance Event. c PAWTUCKET, R. I., Nov. 19 The long and eventful season of racing in New Eng- land came to a close this afternoon at Nar- ragansett Park, with Charley Dickey putting up a good ride to win the three-quarters , Jamestown Purse, with G. Watts Silverette. The track was deep in slop, but Silverette went the distance in 1:12 to finish out a length and a half in advance of Paul Kelleys Cardinalis. The latter ruled a slight choice c over the winner. Mrs. F. Rossiters Marson was a distant third in the event, finishing out some half a dozen lengths back of the runner-up. Play Dis, coupled in the betting 1 with Beach Ensemble, was fourth, and Gay 1 Balko was the only other starter. Silverette made virtually all of her own pace. Gay Balko showed enough early speed to chase her, but Cardinalis drove through - on the rail at the turn, loomed up as a highly " menacing factor steadily closing ground. j Around this turn, Marson also moved up ; fast, only to drop back as Silverette and Cardinalis hooked up in a stretch duel at : the eighth pole. Silverette, under urging, drew off from Cardinalis in the final seventy yards of the race. 25,000 VIEW SPORT. It was a miserable day for the close of the ! season, rain falling all afternoon. Despite that fact, and despite the lack of a stake, a crowd that numbered more than 25,000 viewed the sport. Cosgrave Stables Findon, with apprentice J. Ashcrof t in the saddle, splashed through the slop to win the opening event by two lengths. The Display filly was made favorite for the betting. She won by two lengths. Stop Light, after dwelling slightly at the start, began picking up his field in the run through the back stretch and, continuing gamely in the final three furlongs, saved second place. "West Sea was three lengths 1 off the runner-up. Mr. Hyland and Mad Kerry alternated in the early pacemaking role, but Findon, never far from the leaders, moved up midway on L the final turn to take command. Once she was in front, it was all over as she drew away handily all through the final three-sixteenths. Mrs. L. H. Nimkoffs Transmute gelding, Linas Son, found the track made to order for him. He took the lead in the first few strides and coasted home under Earl Ma-loney to a six lengths victory. Nellie Ma, in the contention from the beginning, saved the place by a length and a half, with Miss De Mie third. Fumble finished fourth. Linas Son went the distance in 1:13. There was nothing to the running at any time, except the three placed horses. IDLE ELF PROVES BEST. F. .C. Murrays Idle Elf was fouled by O. L. Fosters Goldman when the latter bore out in the stretch, but was still good enough to win the three-quarters event that was third on the program. At the end Jimmy Ashcroft, who was completing a double, had the victor a neck clear of Goldman with Viajero taking the third award by a narrow margin over Count Cotton. The time was 1:14. Goldman set the early pace, followed by High Treason, with Idle Elf third. Idle Continued on eleventh page. FLEET SILVERETTE WINS Continued from first page. Elf raced to second place at the eighth post and caught the pacemaker at the sixteenth post. There Goldman bore out knocking Idle Elf off stride, but he recovered rapidly to drive home in game fashion. W. Hirschensohns Free Again carried Earl Maloney to a double as she won the fourth event by four lengths over G. R. Watkins Lady Sara. The race also marked a "Double" for trainer Sol Rutchick. Rut-chick and Maloney had scored previously with Linas Son. The winner was under a front-rating ride. She bore out in the stretch, but increased her advantage despite that fact. Mrs. Glen Felkners Muggins finished third and Miney Myerson was fourth in the event. The sixth race, two miles and seventy yards was run in a hard, driving rain and it was impossible to distinguish the colors. Moralist broke in front and was still leading the first time around. The second time around Blade Edge was in front at the eighth post and withstood a furious drive to stall off Manhattan. Winged Flight was third. Up and Up was made a short priced favorite, but finished fourth. The time was 3:42.
