j BOWIE TURF NOTES C. R. Fleischmann, madeapplication for stall space to accommodate Life Guard, Scatter Brain and Mill River for the winter meeting at Oriental Park. Jockey Nick Wall complained that he was still in sore condition from the fall he received when thrown from Puzzle Dance Thursday and was granted permission to cancel his mounts Saturday at Bowie. He resumed riding Monday. Jockey R. Eccard stated that he would leave at the close of the Bowie meeting for New Orleans. The schooling list at Bowie is made up of twenty-nine pupils at the present time and classes are held each morning. H. Januska transferred W. Westmorelands shifty sprinter Jadaan and his good distance performer Invermark here from Pimlico when stalls were secured. Joe Martinez, Cuban sportsman, purchased Harp Wave and Dusenda from Howard Maistrei and will ship the pair to Oriental Park for racing. Condition books for the first nine days that were compiled by racing secretary R. S. Shelley were distributed among the Horsemen at Bowie for the meeting of the Havana-American Racing Association. The meeting opens January 12 and continues to March 12. A. J. Halliwell reached Laurel with a division of his stable that campaigned at Narragansett Park. Cruising and Spring Moon were in the shipment. Marshall Cassidy, steward at Bowie, boarded a plane late Saturday evening in Washington and left for Miami to be with his wife and daughter on Sunday to celebrate their twenty-second wedding anniversary. Mr. Cassidy returned in time for Mondays racing. M. C. Shea, who served as placing judge at Laurel Park and Pimlico, returned from Montpelier, where he acted in an official capacity Saturday. C. K. Finch requested stabling room at Oriental Park in Cuba for Berry Patch, Jane McCrea and one other horse, for the winter meeting. William Shewbridge and James F. Milton reported that the following stables have applied for accommodations for the winter meeting of the Havana-American Racing Association: Liberty Lane, James F. Neal, T. Martell, W. B. Hallar, George Cook, E. K. Hillman, R. C. Watts, R. B. Archer, Matt Colford, Mrs. J. Spaeth and G. L. Hamilton. It is also reported that Hirsch Jacobs, who trains for Mrs. E. D. Jacobs, and George Alexandra, who trains for the Medway Sta-ible, plan to ship fifteen horses each to the island track from Miami. K. D. Kolseth, acting for R. E. P. Hoover, I purchased the useful sprinters Redfoot and Madfoot from P. A. Rothfuss. They will be j turned out after the close of the Bowie meet-i ing and prepared at an early time for the 1 1939 season. J i
