j I I I ARRIVALS AT AGUA CALIENTE Expect to Have About 500 Horses on Grounds for Opening Program on Thanksgiving Day. AGUA CALIENTE, Mexico, Nov. 21. With 375 horses on the track and more arriving daily, well-filled fields are assured for the opening of the fifty-day meeting Thanksgiving Day. The large influx of thoroughbreds has forced George Schilling, general manager of racing here, to lay out a nine-race card for Sunday, November 27, in order that no owners will be frozen out of a shot at the purses. But the main interest here is not in which horse will cop the Inaugural Handicap or other features of the four-day opening session. The biggest anxiety lies in the public handicap contest, for which a daily prize of 00 will be hung up. To win this pot of gold a spectator is required to pick seven straight winners. And that seems like a tough job. But if there is no winner on Thanksgiving Day, Friday or Saturday, the handicapping purse for Sunday, November 27, will be ,000. This "two grand" somebody is certain to win, because if nobody picks the seven required winners second to eighth race, inclusive, the person with the best handicapping record for the day will drag down the pot. The meeting will have mutuels and books. The book ring will be an open one, with bargain hunters having an opportunity of shopping around for the best price obtainable. The marked feature of the meeting will be the predominance of one mile races. General manager Schilling has insisted on this distance in order that patrons of the track may be able to see the start as well as the finish of races. Twenty horses came over the line yesterday, including His Girl, which will be a candidate for the Inaugural Handicap against Old Maid and Faithful Maude, the most consistent winner in the history of the track. Reservations for the opening indicate one of the biggest days in the history of the course. Ten thousand persons are expected for the "kick-off."
