IRWIN TRIES SUICIDE NEW YORK, N. Y., Nov. 21. Robert Irwin, confessed slayer of Veronica Gedeon, an artists model, and two other persons, made a spectacular bid to end his own life yesterday. Brought into the psychiatric office at Tombs prison, where he is awaiting sentence for the triple murders, the erratic sculptor suddenly broke away from his guards, ran to a window, smashed the glass with his fists and attempted to rub his wrists on the shattered fragments. Irwin, last week pleaded guilty to the murders with which he was charged. Selection of a jury had been about completed when his previous plea of not quilty was withdrawn. He was presented before the court as a psychopathic case by his counsel. Irwin faces a sentence of from twenty years to life.
