FIRST CROP OF YEARLINGS Home-Breds Being Prepared to Race Under Colors of Mrs. R. J. Murphy, Indiana Sportswoman. NEW ORLEANS, La., Nov. 22. The first crop of home-bred yearlings from the farm of Mrs. R. J. Murphy, of Evansville, Ind., are now being prepared at the Fair Grounds by trainer Otis Clelland and a fine looking quintet of babies they are. All are the get of Ramoneur and will make their initial appearance under the purple and green silks of the sportswoman after the turn of the year when they become eligible for racing. The youngsters are well broken, as trainer Clelland brought them to Louisville from the farm in September and started to work with them and according to him, they have displayed steady progress in learning the ways of racing and should be ready for the first races offered for juveniles at the Fair Grounds. It is the opinion of Clelland that at least two of the youngsters, all of which are unnamed, will develop into top-notchers, judging from what they have shown him in private trials. Clelland is regarded as an excellent judge of young racing material, having been classed as one of the best two-year-old riders in the West several years ago. . Clelland is devoting much of his time to the preparation of the five yearlings, as the older horses under his supervision have been racing throughout the year and need little seasoning to put them on edge for racing when the curtain lifts on the New Orleans racing scene.
