I BOWIE TURF NOTES fl and Walter E. OHara, former president of tho Narragansett Racing Association, and d. party of friends arrived from New England to attend the remaining days of racing at Bowie. Max Hirsch, his daughter, Mary, and Tom Waller, trainer of the Brandon Stable, miraculously escaped injury Saturday when the car in which they were passengers struck a telegraph pole near Warrenton, Va; Only a shaking up was received by the three, but the car was badly damaged, probably beyond repair. Earl Walden, who was in charge of the mutuel department at Narragansett Park after the departure of M. M. Mahony, ar- rived from New England and joined the mutuel staff at Bowie. Walden reported that the daily average at the Pawtucket track was 23,000. The B. F. Whitakcr horses that were placed in two express care at Pimlico were transferred to Miami, Fla., by trainer Jack Howard to await the opening of the Florida season at Tropical Park. The E. W. Duffy horses were shipped to Columbia, S. C, late Saturday from Baltimore to be turned out in the Iodine State. Riggs Mahony arrived from New England, where he was employed in the mutuel department.
