DEEP END BY A HEAD I Jakes Nanticoke Handicap in Spirit-Zed Contest and Spectacular Finish. I ; .Registers Double for Trainer J. By- er and Jockey Nash, Who Previously Had Scored With Tiberius. BOWIE, Md., Nov. 22 Deep End, recently arrived from Narragansett Park, gave the -Paragon Stables its second victory -of the i meeting when he drove to a head victory in 1 the Nanticoke Handicap, the class "C" event i j which was the best attraction on the days 1 program at the Prince Georges course. .There were four heads on the post at the ! conclusion of this sprint, with Ghost Queen . saving the place award from Slow Motion i f and Toddle On finishing fourth. The score fmarked the second of the afternoon for Jake i Byer, who sent forth Herman Phillips Tibe- : riiis to gather major honors in the secondary i attraction, with apprentice Ronnie Nash sharing in the double. It also was the i fourth winner of the meeting for the little : New York trainer, whose record for the : meeting is unblemished. Deep End completed his race in exactly the same time as Tiberius, when he finished out in 1:13. He paid just a shade better than the younger gelding when he showed .45 to . It was the second straight for the three-year-old son of Reigh Count and Chestie Ann. The score was witnessed by another excellent off-day crowd, with conditions continuing ideal, a warm sun having the mile course in good shape for the competition . I CLOSE UP. ! Nash had Deep End in a forward position while Deep End and C-Note battled for the lead during the first half mile. He did not go to a hard drive on the Reigh Count geld-1 ing until straightened away for home and then hustled him to the front to have what appeared a commanding advantage the other side of the sixteenth pole. Then along i came Ghost Queen and Slow Motion with . strong stretch bids and the Paragon sprinter ; had to be driven out to register by a short head. ! Ghost Queen was shy on early speed, but she finished swiftly. The same holds true for Slow Motion, another early dullard. With a trifle farther to go it is probable the two would have been fighting it out for principal honors. Toddle On was always well up and had no apparent excuse, while Benjam and C-Note simply quit. Sir Raleigh, the mutuel t choice, put in a sad race, never being a l factor. TIBERIUS WINS. Tiberius carried the colors of Herman i Philips to a handy victory in the Girdletree - Purse, a juvenile condition event, giving trainer Jake Byer his third straight winner r in that many Bowie chances. As he rounded I out the six furlongs in 1:13, the gelded son of Carlaris and Gay Kitty was a length and a half in advance of the pacemaking Black Bun, with Watch Over a neck away and Golden Voyage another head back. The winners New England record caused him to be third choice in the market at .90 to . Ronnie Nash had Tiberius in a good position for the first half mile, while Black Bun was setting the pace, with Watch Over pressing him closely. These two were head and head turning for home, and when they went wide the latter apprentice cut in close with his charge to gain a short lead inside Continued on fifteenth page. He could never increase it on Watch Over and the two were closely lapped at the top of the stretch. Then l followed a bumping match which did neither any good. In the final drive Black Bun proved the gamer of the two. Watch Over improved considerably over his previous race, but not enough to gain brackets. ; Golden Voyage, which had beaten the colts which finished second and third on the opening day of the meeting, broke slowly land was outpaced for a half mile. He finished stoutly on the outside through the stretch and, with a better beginning, would have been mightly troublesome. Butterman, a newcomer from Chicago where he had been racing at Sportsmans Park, was made a slight choice in the opening six furlongs claimer, fashioned for non-winning juveniles. The son of Peter Hast ings and Kitten M. performed to the expectations of his connections by carrying the silks of W. Durkin past the judges a length in advance of Howellville, with Buds King a length and a half away. FORCES PACE. Rollins had Butterman in close attendance to the pace of Exertion, taking command at the top of the stretch to draw clear at the furlong ground and was untroubled for the rest of the journey. Howellville was shy on I early speed, but finished well to gain secondary honors. Buds King, taken up repeatedly, turned in a good race on his own courage and may have been best. Phone Dijon, a hot j tip, ran a poor race. San Antioca, beaten in her previous Bowie outing, proved best of the platers in the mile and a sixteenth second race, registering by a two-length margin over the pacemaking Doplay, with the latter saving second place prize by a half length. The battle for third money was a keen one, vith the public choice, Watersplash, nosing Passing Eve out for that award and Slattern being only a length away. The successful daughter of Blue Pete and Sardinian did not lack for support, being a .45 to chance in the machines. Mrs. E. B. Carpenters mare was outpaced early, but went up fast on the final turn and came through along the rail in the stretch to wear down Doplay and win going away. The latter displayed improved early speed to race Devils Mate into subjection, but wilted himself in the final furlong. Watersplash, a beaten choice for the second straight time, moved up fast in the last furlong but couldnt improve her position materially in the stretch run. Passing Eve was messed about in the early running and can do better. Slattern had to take the overland route. Devils Mate simply quit, while Toni was done after six furlongs. Histrionic, gelded son of Masked Marvel and Billie Burke, who ran for as little as ,500 at Keeneland last month, proved swiftest of the all aged performers that appeared in the mile and seventy yards Bay Ridge Purse. "Blackie" McCoolcs charge was best supported of the nine contestants and the second choice of the day to score. At the end Seabo had him a length and a half in advance of Solar Flight, with that juvenile filly taking the place from Landlubber by a similar margin. The winner was a 3 to 2 favorite. The sixth race, a mile and a sixteenth claimer for platers of the better sort, produced another stirring finish, with Endymion just nosing out the rapidly closing Pretty Pet and so depriving Nash of a triple. Two lengths farther away, Bain Marie outlasted Trina for third money. The winner was held at no considerable regard, paying .65 to .
