NOTRE DAMES 1939 SCHEDULE SOUTH BEND, Ind., Nov. 22. Director of Athletics Elmer F. Layden announced Monday a nine-game football schedule for Notre Dame for 1939. Purdue is met in the opener on September 30. Southern Methodist faces the Irish on October 14, while Iowa is the opponent on November 11. Army, Navy, Northwestern, Southern California, Georgia Tech and Carnegie Tech, all of whom were on the 1938 schedule, will be met again next . season.
