BILOXI HANDICAP TODAY Well-Matched Field of Ten Named to Start in Saturdays Feature. Michigan Flyer Is Top Weight and 1 Likely Choice Unbeaten Torch Stick Makes Winter Debut. f NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 2. Although it still is a little early, coming three-year-olds of 1939 already are bidding for their share of public interest at the Fair Grounds and tomorrow will see some of the better three-year-old prospects under silks in the Biloxi Handicap, the stellar race on the week-end program. The race for juveniles, is to be -contested at six furlongs for a ,500 purse and ten youngsters are carded to take part in it. Michigan Flyer, owned by Joe W. Brown ,pf New Orleans, already has stamped himself as a colt of some quality by the manner in which he won his only two engagements here this winter. He won the first race of the local season on a muddy track and came back last Tuesday to whip another field of two-year-olds on firm footing to show -his versatility. Both these races were decided at six furlongs and in- each of them the son of Michigan Boy came from behind to achieve victory and suggest that he also might find a route to his fancy. The brown colt has been assigned top-..weight for the Biloxi and will be asked to perform under 117 pounds. Even under that steadying impost he probably will rule a pronounced favorite. Among Michigan Flyers opponents tomorrow will be the unbeaten Torch Stick which E. E. Irbys Old Fox Stable acquired from "Dixiana last summer. This filly, a daughter of Torchilla, won each of her four engagements this year and tomorrow will be making her winter debut. Considerable interest will attach to her performance and she is certain to come in for stanch support in the mutuels. Her impost tomorrow will be 115 pounds. RIVALS OF MERIT. Among other likely youngsters named for the Biloxi are Mrs. Vera Wyses High Place and "Butsey" Hernandez Bright, which finished second and third, respectively, when Michigan Flyer accounted for his opening day victory, and Mrs. C. C. Winters Patrol Scout, and E. E. Chanocks Street Arab, which were closest to him when he scored his second local win. Another in the field is Mrs. Charles Graysons Linger Awhile, which scored her maiden victory since the local season began, while also listed in the entries is Leo Bey-das Joji T., a stakes winner here early last spring. The principal supporting race tomorrow will be the June Preisser Purse, and it will see a field of eight meeting at a mile and seventy yards. Among those scheduled to come together are Woodlander, Miss Apprehend, Swift Spot, Pokeaway, Prince Sador, "Glasby, Morris Griner and Ozark. The probable field follows: PP. Horse. Wt.
