SUBWAY WORK GETS STARTED A crowd, estimated at more than 500, consisting mostly of men with lunch boxes ready to go to work, viewed the first steps in the construction of Chicagos new subway Tuesday. The crowd swarmed about the front and rear of 19 West Chicago Avenue, where the first shaft for tunnel construction is being sunk in a back yard garden.
